The internet is a very useful tool, except it can be very misleading. There are so many places to go on the internet that it is very easy to go down the wrong path. By teaching them the correct way to research on the internet students can enhance their learning and presentations. Technology is what they know and what they will use in everyday life, so we need to incorporate technology in our daily teaching.

I like to use the internet in my classroom and I don't get to do it very often. The internet is something that students use almost daily and when they get to use it at school they are more involved in thier learning. However, I have learned that they are sometimes lazy about how they do thier research. This module has helped me to see that I can teach them better research techniques and monitor what they do. I learned that I can pick specific search engines for them to use, set up a blog for them to use for reflection, and using email to remind them about homework assignment. My problem is that I have no idea which free blog is the best to use in my classroom.

Information gleaned from the Internet will certainly have an influence on their perceptions and opinions. I will have to teach them about web site bias, URL extensions and their meanings, reliable sources, the importance of current information, etc. Many students believe virtually everything they read off of the Internet, so information literacy skills are critical for students' research on the Internet. Teachers must take the time to teach these skills or their students will break copyright law, use questionable sources, and be exposed to misinformation. The Internet is a great resource that must be used with knowledge and caution. For the younger students, guided use of the Internet, such as evaluated sites provided for the students and specific to their research should be considered.

The Internet is playing a significant roll in today's education. My concern is that many students believe that what they read on the Internet is true and reliable. Working with students and classes I find that they do not know how to evaluate for reliability what they find. The HS teachers think that the students have learned this in the lower grades. Has it? I do not know where these skills are taught or if they are taught. Is it taught by a select number of teachers or is it taught as part of a class? I know that it is not taught K-6. I think I need to investigate this question.
